‘ve been making wedding bowls for special people this spring. The technique used is called scraffito. I threw the piece in a lighter clay and then
brushed the surface with a thin coating of black tinted clay slip. After it dries halfway I carve in the image, and it gets a clear glaze. The saying on the bowl on the right is a Basho poem that I thought was good wedding advice.
